My creative career began
as a production artist in the Marine Corps back in 1974. I had a
tremendous desire to become a photographer after my first production
assignment. Denied formal military training, I purchased a used Olympus
OM-1 in 1978 and began to pursue the craft on my own.
During my tour in Washington, D.C. I
honed my skills providing coverage for fellow Marines involved in various
duties, activities, and ceremonies. Later, while stationed in Hawaii, I
was offered the opportunity to cross train as a combat photographer. I
fell in love with the Hawaiian islands and spent years photographing the
lifestyle and culture of the people that are ohana.
I began working as a freelance digital
artist and photographer in the mid 90's, designing conceptual images for
advertising and web site interface graphic design for clients like AOL,
Aquent Partners, CEMA, DEA, Nasdaq, and The Mitre Corp.
I still produce occasional concepts for
clients, work part time, and shoot images for stock. My stock images are
represented by Alamy.com in the UK, and on my personal web site:
http://www.digitalrailroad.net/jimphotog.
