Mike Ash

In Memoriam

In January 2004 Mike Ash tragically lost his life during a home invasion.  Mike certainly had a unique talent and was kind enough to share it with all of us.  We at BestFoto would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Mike's family.  Below is his Gallery which I worked on with him and updated just a couple of months before his untimely death.  Farewell fellow shutterbug.  You will certainly be missed.

I'm currently 53 years old, divorced and disabled. I have 3 children, the youngest of which is 20 years old now. My work background was in electronics; primarily communications. It was on the job in communications that I was injured 18 years ago. My foray into photography started 4 years ago when I bought an Olympus D-400z point and shoot. Mostly so I could take pictures to email to a few friends, but also to give me something to do with my time. That led me to doing macro photography. After quite a bit of experimenting around with different ways of getting closer I settled on using magnifying glasses, and incorporated them into a homemade macro lens that works good on the smaller cameras. All of my macro shots where taken using that lens, and I have an album set up on my album site with instructions on how it was made at: www.picturetrail.com/amiga7

The constant bending of doing macro started taking its toll on my injuries, so I've pretty much stopped doing macro work now, and have branched out a bit. Walking sometimes helps, so I go to the Lowry Park zoo that's close to where I live, and take pictures of the animals there. Any decent ones that I get are made up into slideshows, burned to CD's, and given to the workers at the zoo. With a great deal of help on their part I've also put together a CD for the aviary that ID's every bird on their inventory. It's used by new keepers to the aviary to learn the different birds, and where they are located at in the zoo. It keeps me busy, and that was the original idea behind getting into photography. It's an idea that has worked well for me.

I would like to thank the 3 Amigos for this opportunity to display my work, and I hope you enjoy.
