Heather McFarland

I am 42 years old and retired in the Summer of 2000 from a 20 plus year
career as a System Engineer designing computer systems for a major retailer. This gives me time to spend summers camping with my son and
time to pursue a second career in photography. I have been casually shooting 35mm since 1987, but didn’t seriously get into photography until I got my first digital camera in 1998. Digital photography is now my passion and I try to get out and shoot everyday. I also dabble in graphic design and create logos and web graphics for small companies.

I like to photograph a wide variety of subjects and feel that almost anything can make a good image if presented in an interesting way. But I
am drawn most to the graphical elements found all around us and try to present a strong graphical feel to many of my images. I love to have bright colors in my images also.

I can spend hours driving or walking around a city or town looking for hidden photo opportunities that others may just walk by without a second
glance. I take my camera gear everywhere with me and am always looking for a photo opportunity.

I just upgraded my equipment to a Nikon D1X and am hoping that the capabilities of this camera along with being able to use a wide variety of lenses will take my photography to a new level. I am now trying my hand at sports and action photography and find it very rewarding.  Not to mention how fun it is hanging out with all young folks that are willing to risk life and limb to get their photo taken while performing a sport or activity they love.

I really enjoy sharing my view of the world around me with others through my photography and enjoy getting feedback on how these images effect the viewer. That is why sites like Bestfoto are such a great place not only to share our passion for photography, but also to learn from each other and grow in our never ending pursuit to capture and preserve that perfect, special moment in time!
