Our premier sponsor’s owner Dennis Thomas of Thomas Distributing/Battery Supply contacted me recently excited about a new product he had just received and asked if I’d do a review of the product and post it on BestFoto.
The product is the Powerex Maha MH-C204w battery charger.
Let me start off my review with “WOW”, having had a Maha c204f for quite a while I’m already a fan of their chargers and know how reliable they are. The first thing you’ll notice when you open the box is there’s no bulky power supply to deal with. It uses only a standard cord as the power supply is built into the charger so you don’t have that brick of a power supply to contend with. Another nice feature is they have standard cords for other countries such as Australia, the UK, Europe etc. also as the voltage conversion is handled inside the charger hence the w after C204 (stands for world charger) so no matter where you live you can order one of these with the cord for your country. Now on to the rest of the review, it’s a Maha do I need to say more? They flat out work and work well, and the C204w is no exception, it charged 4 of the newly released Powerex 2300 Nimh batteries Dennis included for my testing in an hour. I also charged 4 of my Powerex 2000 Nimh batteries in about an hour. This charger like most of the Powerex Maha chargers has a button on it that will rejuvenate batteries that are aged or don’t seem to hold their charge for very long, but this rejuvinate circuit is all new and has a ramp up feature that kind of jolts those old batteries back to life (kind of like a defib for batteries). What it does is totally drain the battery then charge it fully so you can revive a lot of those older batteries you were going to throw out. This charger can accommodate 2 or 4 AA or AAA batteries and AC voltages of 100-240 volts and 50/60 Hz . This charger is simply the best charger on the market today in my opinion and at under $30 you can't go wrong. Want to save more? Bundle it with 4 of those new Powerex 2300 nimh batteries for under $40.00.($3.00 more for extra country cord)
Another nice item you may want to consider if you do a lot of road trips for those photo shoots is a Digipower DC to AC power
adapter that plugs into your vehicles cigarette lighter and gives you up to 25watts of power from your cars battery to plug you charger in or if you’ve got a camera that uses a battery pack like a EN-EL3 etc. just plug that charger into this device, it will work with a portable dvd player, a photo storage device or any number of items that require ac voltage, this item is small enough to fit in you camera bag so this is one item every Photographer should have in his bag or vehicle. The adapter sells for $13.87 and not missing that once in a lifetime shot because of dead batteries is worth every penny.
A quick note on those Powerex 2300 nimh batteries
The Powerex 2300 nimh batteries are on special for $13.87 per pack of 4 but bundled with the c204w charger they end up costing $10.00 (bundle price is $39.87* for Maha c204w charger and 4 Powerex batteries and 4 battery holders) * = add $3.00 for extra country cord
Another item Dennis tossed in for my review was a Digipower lens & screen cleaner.
Its a 100% Microfiber cloth for cleaning camera lens, digital camera lcd screens, computer lcd screens etc. It will not scratch, streak or smear. The cloth is two sided with one side being a velvet soft side for delicate lcd screens and a satin side for glass or hard plastic. I've used it on my lcd monitor and digital camera's lens and lcd screen and it works great! It's a nice size to around 10" x 10" and is washable by hand or machine. Battery Supply has these on special right now for $4.97 for 1 or $4.57 for 3 or more.
I hope these reviews were helpful.
